Blue Tanzanite

Product ID: 1021

In the annals of the world of precious stones there exist legends whose renown is measured not in millions of years on the market, but in an exceptional combination of natural magic and singular rarity. One such stone is tanzanite — a treasure mined in a single location on earth, at the foot of the majestic volcano Kilimanjaro. Our jewellery house takes great pleasure in presenting for your consideration a true paragon of elegance and impeccable taste — a certified natural tanzanite of 0.46 carats.

The stone is distinguished by its filigree geometry: a diameter of 5.50 millimetres and the flawless trillion cut work in perfect concert to fully unlock the mineral's inner potential. Every facet of this triangle has been calculated with mathematical precision so as to capture even the faintest rays of light and transform them into a dazzling symphony of brilliance.

Most captivating of all is this tanzanite's deep, beguiling palette. The stone displays a noble blue-violet hue endowed with the remarkable property of pleochroism — meaning it shifts seamlessly through its tones depending on the angle of view and the nature of the light. In daylight, one beholds a piercing, pure celestial blue; yet in the rays of the evening sun or by candlelight, luxurious velvety violet and purple reflections ignite within the depths of its facets.

Such a specimen is the ideal choice for the creation of an exclusive jewel. Its compact dimensions and balanced proportions make it a perfect centrepiece for an elegant engagement ring, a minimalist pendant on a delicate chain, or striking stud earrings. Tanzanite harmonises beautifully with the cool brilliance of white gold or platinum — which accentuates its crystalline purity — as well as with the warm radiance of classic yellow gold, which lends it a rich, vintage contrast.

Add to your personal collection a jewel of rare character — one that will not only affirm your impeccable standing, but will become a true family heirloom whose value and rarity will only grow with time. This stone awaits someone who will truly appreciate its subtle, aristocratic beauty.

The story

About this creation

Tanzanite: Born in the Heart of Africa

In the galaxy of coloured gemstones, there exists a star whose brilliance ignited relatively recently, yet has already conquered the entire world. It is tanzanite — a captivating, transparent gemstone whose story began in 1962 in the northern reaches of the East African nation of Tanzania. It was there, at the very surface of the earth, that the first crystals were discovered — later identified by scientists as the rarest variety of the mineral zoisite.

Five years later, a substantial deposit was found in the same region, sparking intensive mining. The stone's extraordinary potential was immediately recognised by the legendary jewellery house Tiffany & Company. As its principal distributor, the house bestowed upon the world the name 'tanzanite' in honour of its homeland, and in 1968 launched a sweeping marketing campaign. Almost overnight, the new gemstone captured the hearts of leading jewellery designers, connoisseurs, and lovers of beauty the world over.

The Play of Colour and the Magic of Cut

Natural tanzanite possesses a remarkable quality — pleochroism, the ability to shift colour depending on the angle of observation, ranging from violet-blue to rich purple hues. To reveal this palette in all its splendour, jewellers traditionally employ heat treatment, which allows for a spectrum ranging from delicate lavender to deep violet-blue tones.

  • Rich, deep hues are traditionally regarded as the most precious, and are most commonly found in larger specimens weighing 5 carats and above. Owing to the specific crystal growth, cutters frequently orient the stone to preserve its maximum size, thereby accentuating its noble purple reflections.

  • Delicate, lighter violet tones possess a singular, sophisticated charm. Many discerning clients prefer precisely this palette. These stones allow for the creation of extraordinarily airy, elegant jewellery at a most appealing and accessible price.

The Art of Gentle Care

Tanzanite is a stone for true connoisseurs, one that calls for sensitive and gentle handling. Its rare beauty is owed to a specific physical structure that is sensitive to sudden changes in temperature and careless impact.

To ensure your jewellery treasure brings joy for many years to come, specialists recommend choosing, for everyday wear, pieces whose design reliably protects the stone. An inspired and assured choice for dynamic, spirited jewellery lovers are earrings or elegant pendants. In these pieces, tanzanite is sheltered from accidental impact, allowing you to enjoy its unique, hypnotic lustre with effortless ease every day.

Living with your jewel

Caring for your jewellery

Caring for jewellery matters more than most people expect. Your creation sparkles newly after a gentle cleansing: most gemstones, and diamonds especially, respond beautifully to a wash in mild soapy water. But not every gem. An emerald, for example, must never be washed this way; its natural character asks for a different, gentler care. Please always ask us how to care for your jewellery, and especially for your gemstone. We will gladly show you.

Gold is a soft metal, and it deserves to be worn thoughtfully: removed for sport and heavy work, kept away from chemicals, stored in its box. And once every couple of years, we recommend bringing your jewel to a jeweller so the prongs can be checked for wear; a five-minute inspection protects a stone for a lifetime.
